Insulating Oil Testers are designed for the easy and accurate determination of the die-electric strength of insulating oils used intransformers, switchgears, bushings, capacitors and other electrical apparatus. Operation

All the controls and indicators are located on a top panel with clear and easy to understand legends. A kV meter indicates the value of the test voltage and following breakdown of the test sample, continues to indicate the breakdown voltage after the circuit breaker has tripped and removed the test voltage.Motor may be stopped and re-started as required so that it is possible to hold any test voltage desired (upto maximum) constant for a period of time. The circuit breaker ignores transient spark-overs in the oil sample.

Circuitry

The mains is applied to a continuously variable toroidal autotransformer through a switch and fuse. The output of this variable auto-transformer is fed to the primary of the HV transformer. The secondary of the HV transformer has its midpoint connected to earth through a current transformer. The secondary of the current transformer is connected to a sensitiverelay. When the leakage current in the circuit exceeds a pre-setvalue, the relay operates, thereby tripping the supply to the primary of the HV transformer.

HV Transformer

The HV transformer is a completely dry resin encapsulated transformer with two HV terminals with mounting saddles. The midpoint of the transformer HV winding is grounded so that the voltage of each terminal to earth is only half the test voltage.

Safety

Maximum possible safety of the operator as well as the equipmentis ensured by a safety conscious design. The output controller is interlocked at its minimum position so that HV can be switchedON only when the voltage controller is at zero and the hood isshut. The output controller must be brought to zero after every testor interruption. The hood leading to HV terminals has a safety switch fitted so that opening of the hood shuts the HV OFF.

Test Cell model TC-2

The test cell with cover is made of Methyle Methacrylate ( Acrylic )having effective oil volume between 300 to 500ml with adjustable and removable 36mm mushroom head electrodes to IS 6792 &IEC 156 along with electrode gap distance GO & NOGO gauges,made of alloy steel, precision ground and hardened.OptionalTest Cell with suitable electrode spacing gauges:1.Type TC-1: Same as TC-2 but with 12.5 to 13mm sphericalelectrodes.2.Type TC-3: Same as TC-2 but with 1" dia flat disc electrodesto ASTM D 877.

System description:

The system is fully automatic and carries out tests according to the set or chosen menu like ‘Number of tests, Settling time, Stir time and Waiting time’. System time, setting of test parameters, status and data is displayed on LCD. Audio beep is given after the test is complete and the results can be printed on built-in printer. The test results can be recalled for view after the test. Further the last 99 test readings can also be recalled and printed.

INSULATING OIL TESTER : OTS-E series [SEMI- AUTOMATIC]

Introduction:

UDEY insulating oil testers are market standards since 1960 and several thousand of units are inuse around the world. Series ‘OTS-E’ are semi automatic compact and portable testers giving smooth variable outputs of 60, 80 and 100kV for testing dielectric of insulating oils used inelectrical equipments. Stirrer is provided to stir oil for 60 seconds. Timer of 60 seconds is provided for conducting withstand tests.

System description:

The system is semi-automatic. Test voltage is set on the digital display and test is started. The test voltage ramps to the set voltage level at 2kV per second [IS:6792/IEC 156/ etc]. In case insulation fails, the output test voltage is tripped and comes to zero. The stirrer starts to stir the oil for 60 seconds and stops automatically after 60 seconds. In case the insulation stands the setvalue, the test voltage remains for 60 seconds and automatically returns to zero. If during this period the insulation fails, the test voltage is tripped and output test voltage comes to zero.

  4. Zero interlock. Continuously variable auto-transformer is interlocked at its minimum & maximum position so that H.T. can be switched ‘ON’ only when it is in its minimum position. Interlock at maximum position switches off ‘HT’.
